The Norco Shore series of freeride bikes are built to handle the punishing terrain of Vancouver's infamously technical North Shore, including meaty rock hucks, mind-puzzling stunts, and big boy jumps. These bikes are designed with abuse in mind and after several months of heavy usage, the hearty component spec shows little sign of fatigue. The Shore's compact size feels comfortable and balanced in the air and handles pretty well when the going gets fast. Although it's not claimed to be a great pedaller, some adjustment could get this bike up to being somewhat of a contender for the "one bike", depending largely on the needs of the Shore-style rider. |

great review...as per usual...and sick pictures of some actual riding too, its pretty obvious you put some serious time in on the bike before posting about it.
Having well shaped tubes add strenght and stifness where stresses are cocentrated. So when you have a benty top tube you can reduce wall thickness. It is probably weighting as much as it would do with a straight one.
It's all about the sack clearance and new school tricks, strength is not a reason. Introducing any curve also introduces stress concentrations so you will be increasing the wall thickness if anything! Don't believe the marketing BS you copied that comment from
I tested an 09 shore 1 at a demo day at glentress, scotland and it was amazing, just sailed over wallrides and drops
. Great bike.
I have an old norco shore vps from 2004 and its odd that the newer shore 2 doesn't come with lock-on grips and a telescopic seatpost.
Mine came with ODI ruffians and a telescopic titec...
It's also odd that the shore 2 uses sram 7 drivetrain when I got shimano saint with mine.
How much does this thing cost?

just found out this costs like 3700 canadian dollars. The shore vps retailed at 4000 which is pretty much the same price bracket.
I got holzfeller pedals and bars, hayes nine brakes and other pretty good parts at this price.
Is the component difference just due to price rises?

Man, you cant compare a bike that came out 5 years ago with a brand new one. They probably choose those grips to show the design on the bar. The telescopic seat post is probably for the weight. Companies want the lower weight possible for marketing purpose. (Weight wasn’t as a big concern 5 years ago.) Yeah X.7 drive train is good. And this is the shore 2 review not the shores 1 so don’t expect to see top end components all around.
This has to be one of the best-written and most complete reviews I have ever read on this website (or most magazines, for that matter). Kudos to Brad Walton on an excellent piece of work!
No doubt Brad.....you're onto something here w/ all the reviews and BADASS pics. If Brad says a bike can hang I wouldn't doubt it for a second. He rides bikes like he stole them. Keep writing bro..... you should be a regular in Bike!!
great review. this guy should be working for decline. theres so many bad reviews and write ups in that mag- he would be a breath of fresh air. great photos too btw.
Or keep all that good freshness here at Pinkbike.com. Brad rocks and is 100% professional in all that he does.
good points. not intended as a slight. just a response to a good write up and a reflection on a large scale magazine in our sport that does a below average job in a lot of its written work. cheers fellas
Decline is just a cheerleader bike porn mag, I've never read an objective review in there. It's always the latest, greatest thing ever and the review is usually bracketed by ads for the product they are reviewing.
Objective, fact based reviews are hard to find out there, but Brad nails it again.

that's why the only bike magazine i read is Mountain Bike Action. the only one with reviews that come close to this (Y)
One of the most comprehensive reviews of a bike I've ever seen. It just shows why pinkbike is superior to mags.

Great review!
Rented the same bike in Moab for a Hazard-Kokopelli Down- UPS/LPS - Porcupine run.
A total blast! Couldn't stop laughing. Ate up everything in sight. Easy to bring the front end up and low center this also railed the berms and singletrack. Versatile. Not used to the weight, but adjusted straight away. Also climbed really really well to my surprise. Point and shoot tracked up anything I could find.
What an awesome ride...
Would lay down the plastic if my local rides back home could justify it.

One thing that others have noted about the 3 is that a few riders have managed to knock the rebound knob off the Van R rear shock due to the seat post slipping down on hard hits... apparently not a concern if the stock post is trimmed and checked to be clamped down hard. I don't know if that would be an issue with the 2, but just thought I would mention it in case anyone else has opted for the lower-end 3 as I have.
Anyway, thanks again for your review!
